Hampshire outstanding full-back Cameron McDonald has been named in the England Counties U20s squad for their forthcoming tour of Georgia this week.

Cameron, who has played for Hampshire through the age groups and was one of the stars of the recent Under 20 campaign, will be on the plane to Tbilisi after being named in the 26-man squad.

The Aldershot-based player, who played his club rugby for Chobham before moving to National League side Bracknell this season, came through the Hampshire ranks and impressed the Counties selectors at an intense training camp in Derby over the weekend.

Four Hampshire players were part of the 92 who were put through their paces, including Havant's Rob Cuffe, former Tottonians youngster Pita Koroi and ex-Winchester fly-half Harry Johnston.

All four players gave an excellent account of themselves, playing for the London & South East region against a strong North side, only losing 21-22 when a last kick of the game penalty drifted wide of the posts.

But it was McDonald who received the nod and he will feature in at least one of the two tests against Georgia that start on Saturday.

Hampshire Under 20s manager Mike Greenslade was delighted, not only for Cameron but for all four of the county players involved.

"They all figured strongly in the selection meetings and Hampshire are very proud of their achievements, especially with Cameron following his selection for the Under 18s Counties side last year” he said.

"We are thrilled for Cam, and for Rob, Harry and Pita as well as they gave it their all and we know that they will be pleased with their efforts."

Cameron will not be the only Hampshire person on the tour either - former County sports medic Katy Williams has been named as the lead physio to the U20 Counties squad.

Katy, who started out with the Hampshire's age groups, has been named in her first international role and the county are delighted for her.

To Cameron and to Katy, Hampshire are very proud of you and your achievements and we wish you well on this exciting tour.
