Seventeen volunteers from clubs across Hampshire successfully graduated from the RFU Leadership Academy in 2018. They join the sixty-seven rugby leaders in the county who have completed the prestigious course over the past 14 years.

The Leadership Academy aims to help people develop their rugby expertise and confidence, while facilitating networking opportunities to allow volunteers to share experiences and solutions to handle similar issues.

Each leadership candidate:

Attends the academy launch to network with other leadership candidates and mentors

Identifies their current strengths and areas for development

Creates their personal learning plan

Completes formal and informal learning and development opportunities

Reviews their progress and gives feedback on the academy

Over a seventh-month period the volunteers completed a number of interactive modules, including:

Leadership: creating an inspiring vision; setting goals and defining roles

Understanding the Rugby Landscape

A Practical Approach To Risk Assessments

Essential Volunteer Management

Business Planning

As one candidate said, “It is an excellent course that really helps you get under the bonnet of running a rugby club and I've made significant improvements as a result.”

“it has helped identify what we want to do as a club and how to get us there,” another added.

The next Leadership Academy in Hampshire is planned to begin in October 2019. To register your interest contact Julie Greenslade or visit http://www.englandrugby.com/my-rugby/volunteers/leadership-academy/
