Trojans Colts have extended their lead at the top of the Hampshire RFU Colts League Cup Division despite not taking the field on Sunday as their opponents, struggling Gosport and Fareham withdrew from the fixture due to lack of numbers.

The Stoneham Lane side are four points clear of Havant Academy, who helped themselves to a second 50 plus points tally by dismissing Basingstoke Academy 57-5 at Down Grange.

Fresh from their excellent National Colts Cup victory over Winchester last weekend, the Hooks Lane outfit had already helped themselves to four tries in the first half before adding another five after the break.

Winger James Hutton collected his second hat-trick of the league season – he scored one against Jersey on the opening weekend – while Oli May grabbed a brace.

Harrison Chalk, Jerome Rudder, Robbie Cuffe and Tom Payne also went over for Havant while Dan Heyes kicked four conversions while Hutton and Rudder also slotted the extras.

Basingstoke, who now sit third in the table but with just one win to their name, only had Ed King’s first half score to celebrate.

In the Bowl Division, Alton Colts have joined Tottonians at the top of the table on nine points after they recorded an impressive 24-3 victory at Ellingham and Ringwood in the only game in the division.

Alton scored two tries in both halves through Rhys Jenkins and Cameron Hamer in the first period and Oliver Pratt and Alexander Toft in the second; Hamer adding a couple of conversions for the Black and Reds.

Will Jenkins kicked a penalty for the E’s in the first half but they couldn’t build upon it and they move up to fourth in the table.

New Milton and District’s match with Portsmouth was postponed to be re-arranged at a later date.

There is a full programme of fixtures next Sunday as the league returns in full force.
