1. New Rules of Play U14’s Lineout: There have been some enquiries regarding the implementation of the lineout for the U14’s.  Please find below five points summary ‘start point’ for the U14 lineout;
  • Numbers committed by both teams must be equal
  • The ball must be thrown straight
  • The game is ‘live’ again when the ball/ball carrier leaves the line of touch. The defenders cannot move until the catcher moves forwards with the ball or passes the ball away. (It is the responsibility of the catcher to make the decision spontaneously and without unnecessary delay)
  • If the throw is not straight (by Red), a line out is awarded to the opposing team (Blue) immediately (no advantage). If the second throw isn’t straight (by Blue), a scrum is awarded to the non-throwing team (Red) on the 15m.
  • A maul can be formed from the line out, but the ball carrier must move forward first and ‘held’ by one or more defenders (and their own team) before the maul is created. They cannot catch, stand still, create the maul (with no contact from the opposition) then move forwards. That would be obstruction.
