Gordon Thwaites passed away at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth Saturday 28th February aged 84 writes Alan Foulger (Club Chairman).

He will be remembered by many in rugby circles over many, many years at Gosport & Fareham RFC, Rosslyn Park RFC, London Irish RFC, Public School Wanderers, Hampshire Rugby and United Services to name but a few.

Gordon, a Yorkshire man by birth, first came to Gosport Rugby Club in the early 1950's but also played a couple a couple of seasons at Porchester RFC before returning to Gosport Park.

He became a rugby journeyman, particularly as bag man. At Rosslyn Park RFC, he was also the Clubhouse steward, living in a caravan on site. He knew many an international player and was known to have socialised with many!

In the words of Jed Stone, Hampshire RFU Executive member, "Gordon was a one-off and blagged his way past more doors than the rest of us will even see".

The funeral will be at Portchester Crematorium on Monday 23rd March at 1pm - everyone is asked to wear a rugby shirt - and then afterwards at the Clubhouse.
