HAMPSHIRE RUGBY

PRINCIPAL SPONSORS

The day started well as it was almost sunny. Three players received injuries earlier in the week and one player was on her Duke of Edinburgh Award trek.

Despite those missing few, we had a full turnout of 29 players.

The first match was against Sussex and the girls all played well keeping the score down to a minimal 5-0 to Sussex.

The weather started declining when the second squad took on Kent. From the outset, Hants dominated the game and then the heavens opened. By half time the pitch was looking muddier than was hoped and when the driving rain turned to hail the match was looking like it might be abandoned.

However the girls were determined to play on and after relocating to another pitch Hants finished wining the game 12-0 with one conversion.

The sun returned and so the final game against Surrey started. It was decided that the x7s matches would be abandoned as pitches were becoming more unplayable.

Once again Hants dominated the match and won 19-0 with two conversions. All the girls played superbly and rugby is a team effort, shown  beautifully by our squad.

They displayed admirable sportsmanship by respecting both the match officials and their opponents, and despite the challenging conditions, remained disciplined throughout.

But most of all, they enjoyed themselves and stood by their fellow teammates at times of minor injuries and huge triumphs.

They are a team but one player excelled and showed why she is a valued member of the squad, Chloe scored three of the five tries, two of which were between the posts.
